Dreamers Café takes you on a whirlwind of music from the 1960s to present day, featuring songs from various Tony Award Winning Musicals including All Shook Up, Grease, Bring It On, and Ghost the Musical.
It follows the life of Sara Gonzalez, a young cheerleader who has everything she dreams of leading up to her junior year of high school when her life is turned upside down. She faces a tragedy, then family issues cause her to move from New York City to Marshall Missouri, going from Prom Queen status to working at a diner to help out her single Mom. In the town of Marshall, survival and doing what you can to support your parents, not following your dreams, is the norm. Rena, the diner owner, went through the same thing as Sara when she was a child, so she understands! She is the person everyone goes to for help, advice, and encouragement, and she keeps all the teenagers that live in the town out of trouble. She also owns the radio station and runs it out of the diner, which is a safe space to express your feelings and who you really are!
The show reminds us all that it is OK to dream, let your talent shine, and not be afraid to showcase it. This coming of age story will make you laugh and cry while taking you on a rollercoaster ride of events.
