Cabaret Series: To the Moon(s) and Back

STARRING: ANNELIESE, CLARISSA, AND ELINA MOON.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6 | 7 PM

The Jackson 5… The Jonas Brothers… The Andrews Sisters… The Carpenters… Haim… are all family bands that are more famous than the Moon sisters.

Anneliese, Elina, and Clarissa Moon are actually sisters (we promise). While they may not look biologically related, their voices blend in that magical way only siblings’ can. All three of them grew up doing theatre together in Orlando, and have since branched out to forge their own paths in professional careers as actors, comedic improvisers, singers, and musicians.

The Moons have performed professionally in theme parks, regional theaters, and cruise ships all over the world. (Okay... only Elina has performed outside of the U.S., but Anneliese and Clarissa are happy to share the credit). Now, the sister trio will share the stage for the first time in more than five years (beyond portraying magical British schoolchildren) to showcase their various talents and tell stories about growing up in a family of performers! The Moons invite you to an evening of Broadway show tunes, stunning sister harmonies, violin playing, and laughter.

The Fannie Lou Hamer Story (SOLD OUT)

A One-Women Play
Written and Performed by Mzuri Moyo Aimbaye
Directed by Byron C Saunders

THE MOTHER OF VOTER REGISTRATION

FROM MISSISSIPPI TO THE MOVEMENT

The Fannie Lou Hamer Story chronicles the life of Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer through poetically styled storytelling. The play opens with Fannie Lou descending the stairs of heaven. Though fully prepared to abandon her earthly body, heaven’s angels plead with her to return to earth to address the senseless police killings of so many young, unarmed Black men and women. Upon her return, she appears at a political rally. Instead of hearing from a presidential candidate, Fannie Lou Hamer takes the stage and stuns the crowd with a show-stopping arrangement of The Battle Hymn of the Republic. As she sings, she calls out the names of those who have been killed by the police.

Through the compelling integration of storytelling, nostalgic songs and graphic video montage, the artist, Mzuri Moyo Aimbaye, channels the heart, soul and passion of Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer and takes the audience on a riveting journey that embues accountability and inspires civic participation.

September 13 - September 29

The time is 1959. The place is a seedy bar in Philadelphia. The audience is about to witness one of Billie Holiday’s last performances, given four months before her death. More than a dozen musical numbers are interlaced with salty, often humorous reminiscences to project a riveting portrait of the lady and her music.

“Original and riveting.” – The London Times

“The richest jazz singing in town just now... Evokes all the sordidness of a woman entirely shaped by suffering... Robertson's play is a spare, shrewdly constructed piece.” – The New York Times

“A searing portrait of a woman whose art was triumphant.” – OnStage

Driving Miss Daisy

WRITTEN by Alfred Uhry
DIRECTED
by Tara Kromer

THE FUNNY, TOUCHING, AND TOTALLY IRRESISTIBLE STORY OF A WORKING RELATIONSHIP THAT BECAME A 25-YEAR FRIENDSHIP.

The place is the Deep South, the time 1948, just prior to the civil rights movement. Having recently demolished another car, Daisy Werthan, a rich, sharp-tongued Jewish widow of seventy-two, is informed by her son, Boolie, that henceforth she must rely on the services of a chauffeur. The person he hires for the job is a thoughtful, unemployed black man, Hoke, whom Miss Daisy immediately regards with disdain and who, in turn, is not impressed with his employer’s patronizing tone and, he believes, her latent prejudice. But, in a series of absorbing scenes spanning twenty-five years, the two, despite their mutual differences, grow ever closer to, and more dependent on, each other. Slowly and steadily the dignified, good-natured Hoke breaks down the stern defenses of the ornery old lady.

Winner of the 1988 Pulitzer Prize and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Play. A warm-hearted, humorous, and affecting study of the unlikely relationship between an aging, crotchety white Southern lady, and a proud, soft-spoken black man. A long-run Off-Broadway success and an Academy Award-winning film.

Don’t miss the chance to experience this extraordinary production once more at Theater West End.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame

LYRICS by Stephen Schwartz
MUSIC by Alan Menken
BOOK by Peter Parnell

AUGUST 2-4

From the Academy Award-winning team comes a lushly scored retelling of Victor Hugo’s epic story of love, acceptance and what it means to be a hero.

Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature, The Hunchback of Notre Dame showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score, as well as new songs by Menken and Schwartz. Peter Parnell’s new book embraces story theatre and features verbatim passages from Hugo’s gothic novel.

The musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be "Out There," observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful Romani woman, Esmeralda. Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by her free spirit, though – the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the Roma – and it’s up to Quasimodo to save them all.

Seussical Kids

MUSIC & LYRICS & BOOK by Lynn Ahrens and Steven Flaherty

"Oh, the thinks you can think" when Dr. Seuss' best-loved characters collide and cavort in an unforgettable musical caper!

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical KIDS, a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime).

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child, who gets in trouble for thinking too many "thinks." Horton's challenge is twofold — not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

The Rocky Horror Show

MUSIC & LYRICS by Richard O’Brien
BOOK by Richard O’Brien

"A musical that deals with mutating identity and time warps becomes one of the most mutated, time-warped phenomena in show business." – The New York Times

June 7 - June 30

In this cult classic, sweethearts Brad and Janet, stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker and a creepy butler. Through elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named “Rocky.”

That “Sweet Transvestite” and his motley crew did the “Time Warp” on Broadway in a 25th anniversary revival. Complete with sass from the audience, cascading toilet paper, and an array of other audience participation props, this deliberately kitschy rock ’n’ roll sci-fi gothic musical is more fun than ever.
