Drop the Needle, Laugh
Curl up in an armchair with “Man in Chair” as he shares his most treasured cast recording — a forgotten 1928 musical that magically comes to life all around him. What follows is a joyous, laugh-out-loud tribute to the golden age of Broadway, brimming with tap numbers, sight gags, and old-fashioned showmanship.
At its heart is the wedding-day chaos of glamorous starlet Janet Van De Graaff, who wants to give up show business to marry her sweetheart Robert. Standing in the way are a scheming producer desperate to keep his star, two gangsters disguised as pastry chefs, a hopelessly self-absorbed Latin lover, an addled hostess, and Janet’s boozy, well-meaning chaperone.
Winner of five Tony Awards including Best Book and Best Original Score, The Drowsy Chaperone is both a wild farce and a warm, funny reminder of why we fall in love with musicals in the first place. Sanford audiences of all kinds — from lifelong fans to first-timers — will find plenty to hum, laugh at, and cherish.
Join us for an evening of madcap delight as the record spins and the curtain rises on a show within a show.
