Hedwig and the Angry Inch

  • Theater West End 115 West 1st Street Sanford, FL, 32771 United States (map)

She came from East Berlin with a botched surgery, a broken heart, and a rock band. She's not here to be understood — she's here to be witnessed.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a Tony Award-winning rock musical that is part concert, part confessional, and entirely unlike anything else on a stage. Hedwig Robinson — punk icon, accidental philosopher, survivor of love and surgery gone wrong — tells her story the only way she knows how: loud, raw, and direct to your face.

Written by John Cameron Mitchell with a score by Stephen Trask, Hedwig has been a cult phenomenon since its 1998 Off-Broadway debut for a reason. Songs like "Wicked Little Town" and "The Origin of Love" aren't just great theater music — they're the kind that live in you long after you leave.

This is not a show that holds back. And neither should you.

About Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Hedwig didn't start on Broadway. It started in a dive bar. In 1994, John Cameron Mitchell and composer Stephen Trask debuted their creation at Squeezebox, a SoHo drag-rock club, in scrappy 30-minute sets blending concert, monologue, and comedy. By 1998 it was an Off-Broadway sensation. By 2014, it had four Tony Awards.

The score draws from the glam rock of David Bowie, the punk of Lou Reed and Iggy Pop, and the balladry of John Lennon — and it doesn't just accompany the story, it is the story. What makes Hedwig endure isn't just the songs (though the songs are extraordinary). It's the invitation it extends to anyone who has ever felt like they didn't quite fit — and the insistence that not fitting is, in fact, the whole point.
